Jennifer Chacon is mourning the loss of her sister, Heather Ann Barela, who was tragically shot and killed in her Santa Clara home. Police have arrested a minor family member for investigation of murder and aggravated assault.
Even a day later, Jennifer Chacon still struggles to believe her sister is gone. 'It's sunk in quite a bit more, but it just doesn't seem real,' Chacon said. Her sister, 44-year-old Heather Ann Barela, was shot and killed in her Santa Clara home on Thursday evening. Chacon had just seen her a couple of weeks earlier for a wedding in northern Utah. 'The rest of her family couldn't go but she came up. Family is everything to her,' Chacon said.
'She stayed at my house for a couple of weeks, and I look back at that time, and I'm so grateful that I got to see her and spend some more time with her before she's gone.' Brandon Alfred Barela, 20, was also shot and sustained injuries not considered to be life-threatening. He also lived in the home. Santa Clara-Ivins police said a family member was arrested for investigation of murder and aggravated assault. Police only confirmed that the suspect was a 'minor' but declined to release the age, sex or any other information about the suspect. Heather Ann Barela was more than just a sister to Jennifer; she was her best friend
