Democrats are turning their focus to the future under a potential Kamala Harris administration in the second day of the DNC.Brian Steel and Columbus Fire Fighters Union IAFF Local 67 President Steven Stein announce a lawsuit against the City of Columbus . August 20, 2024. Steven Stein, IAFF Local 67 president, joined attorney Scott Schiff in announcing the lawsuit. One officer said his bank account had unauthorized purchases from big box retailers.

A different victim said his checking account was accessed, and over a thousand dollars was fraudulently withdrawn from his account.— including social security numbers, dates of birth, phone numbers, and addresses — were on the dark web. "These incidents are a direct result of the City’s inadequate efforts to protect PII in its possession," the lawsuit said. "Moreover, virtually all of the incidents predate Mayor Ginther’s false statement that “the data stolen during the ransomware attack on the city was corrupted or likely unusable.” Not only has the City shown that it could not be trusted with the PII in its possession, but it also cannot be trusted to remedy the harm it caused.

"It was the best information we had at the time," Ginther said. "I take responsibility for the information that I've shared with the public." City officials went on to confirm that city employees' personal information and the information of private citizens were leaked on the dark web.
