Columbus police is joining a massive new push aimed at getting more women on the force, both here and across the country
.Single mother Aissha Broussard said 17 years ago, she had a tough decision to make; Should she join the ranks of the Columbus Division of Police ? It was something she wasn't sure she was ready for.
Over her years, the number of women in the Columbus department has slowly risen. Currently, Columbus police has about 270 female officers which is 11% of the force.The aim of the nationwide push is to increase the representation of women in police recruit classes to 30% by 2030. According to research provided by the 30x30 Initiative, women officers use less force and less excessive force, are named in fewer complaints and lawsuits and are perceived by communities as being more compassionate, especially in sexual assault cases.
