PETALING JAYA: Zoo Negara terselamat daripada ambang krisis kewangan selepas menerima hampir RM1 juta sumbangan daripada pelbagai lapisan rakyat Malaysia. Timbalan Presiden Zoo Negara, Rosly @ Rahmat Ahmat Lana berkata, pelajar turut menderma bagi memastikan haiwan mempunyai makanan mencukupi.“Hanya sebuah bank menyumbang RM30,000. Selain itu, rakyat biasa menyumbang RM10 hingga RM50.”Beliau berkata, sumbangan terbanyak individu ialah RM3,000.
Akibat penutupan itu, Zoo Negara yang menempatkan lebih 4,000 haiwan hanya mampu bertahan 3 bulan dengan tabung kecemasannya. Rosly berkata, kos operasi Zoo Negara mencecah RM12,000 sehari untuk makanan haiwan, menyebabkan keseluruhan perbelanjaan setinggi RM350,000 sebulan.
