KUALA LUMPUR: It was a perfect gift for birthday boy Ong Zhen Yi as he delivered the winning point for Penang in the boys’ Under-16 final of the 100PLUS National Junior Inter-state Team Championships at the Bukit Dumber Badminton Hall.Zhen Yi, who celebrates his 16th birthday today, defeated Hooi Shao Herng 21-13, 21-15 in the decider.
Earlier, Penang did not get off to a good start when Samuel Lee dropped the first point after being outplayed 17-21, 7-21 by Justin Hoh but the doubles pair of Goh Boon Zhe-Rayner Beh Chun Meng leveled the tie with a hard-fought win over favourites Bryan Jeremy Goonting-Mohd Fazriq Razif 21-17 14-21 21-18.
