There was further joy for the home fans when independent mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie also booked their spot in the second round. World No. 7 Soon Huat-Shevon swept aside Taiwan's Cheng Ko-chi-Lee Chi-chen 21-15, 21-13 to set-up a meeting against China's world No. 1 and favourites Zheng Siwei-Huang Yaqiong.
