Yemen food aid for millions infested with insects, says UN

The years-long civil war in Yemen has killed tens of thousands, and put millions on the brink of starvation. – AFP pic, March 21, 2019.

THOUSANDS of tonnes of food aid near Yemen’s flashpoint port city of Hodeida are infested with insects and must be fumigated, said the United Nations yesterday. Last month, a team from the UN’s World Food Programme visited Red Sea Mills warehouses for the first time since September, when they became inaccessible due to the conflict between pro-government forces and Huthi rebels.
