World Press Freedom Day call — NUJ

MAY 3 — In conjunction with May 3, 2019 World Press Freedom Day, the National Union of Journalists Malaysia has urged the newly elected government to repeal the 1984 Printing, Presses and Publishing Act and other relevant laws and regulations that curb the freedom of the press in our country in the democratic process.

Therefore, NUJ hopes that the new government will seriously look at the various draconian laws that constrict press freedom and threaten journalists and to make the desired changes possible. Reporters San Frontieres announced this year that Malaysia's press freedom ranking has risen from 145 in 2018 to 123 in 2019.
