The World Marketing Summit was founded in 2011 by Professor Philip Kotler, an American marketing genius, author and consultant. Prof Philip Kotler is currently the S. C. Johnson Distinguished Professor of international Marketing at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

WMS is the only summit in the world that is held in almost 20 cities yearly and has an audience comprising international organizations, governments, companies, researchers, etc. from all over the world participating in activities to address social issues from a marketing perspective. The inaugural World Marketing Summit was held in 2012 in Dhaka, Bangladesh followed by Kuala Lumpur in 2013 with participation from more than 50 speakers and 4,000 representatives from companies and organizations globally.

Tokyo, the capital city of Japan, hosted the third and fourth summits in 2014 and 2015 respectively with participation from more than 6,000 representatives. During 2017, WMS was held in Canada, Bahrain, Korea, and Japan & in 2018 It was organized in Chile, Bolivia, Japan, India, Italy, Turkey, Singapore, and Korea.
