When loneliness triggers those sugar cravings

Loneliness can cause an intense desire for sugary foods due to changes in brain chemistry, a new study found. — TNS

The researchers explored how brain chemistry is altered and how it processes food cues based on social settings in 93 premenopausal participants. The results showed that those who experienced isolation had the most activity in certain regions of the brain that play a key role in responding to sugar cravings.“Social isolation can cause food cravings similar to the cravings for social connections,” Assoc Prof Gupta said.
