Perak menteri besar Saarani Mohamad said the Umno-PAS relationship was an example of sincere partners.
LUMUT: Perak Umno chief Saarani Mohamad says his party has “divorced” PPBM because it was “insincere”. Saarani who is also Perak menteri besar, said unity among political parties must be based on sincerity and respect, citing the example of the relationship between Umno and PAS in the Muafakat Nasional pact.“When MN , the sincerity between PAS and us was proven in by-elections. We did not contest in each other’s seats but instead supported each other.
“This is proof of the understanding between Umno and PAS, we did not clash . Neither did both parties form branches to poach members from each other,” he told reporters. Yesterday, PPBM confirmed receiving a letter from Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi declaring his party would not cooperate with PPBM in GE15 and that the party would only work with the Perikatan Nasional-led government until Parliament was dissolved.“There is no firing , no fighting. We are professional. In exco meetings, everyone still gives their views and we joke with each other.”
