KUANTAN: MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker wants to know if the indecent dressing summons issued to a woman for wearing shorts in her store was"settled" or"cancelled".
"It is wrong to impose such a fine on a non-Muslim as this is her right and a fundamental liberty guaranteed under the Federal Constitution. The definition of 'inappropriate dressing or exposure' should not infringe these fundamental liberties or traditions," said Ti. Ti said in a statement on Sunday that any local by-laws contradicting the Federal Constitution or federal laws are invalid. He said Nga had correctly pointed out that Malaysian citizens have the freedom to wear the attire of their choice and the summons issued was wrong and must be withdrawn. He said he did not want to see any attempt to use Nga's assurance that the fine was cancelled to cover up for MPKB action, which he said was done"mala fide" .
"My question then is, was the issue resolved when the compound was paid? If so, then the summons was not cancelled," said Ti.
