He said the budget, to be tabled by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, should not just focus on development, but should also help the rakyat and businesses which have been gravely affected by Covid-19.The Semporna MP also said the budget should focus on addressing weaknesses in the health and medical sectors in Sabah, which were seen as being far behind compared with other states.

“There is no issue for us to support (Budget 2021) if it is reasonable and if it is in line with what was declared by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and other Malay rulers in the interest of the rakyat and the country. That is important to us.“If it is for the interest of the people, for example, food assistance to help those in need, we will give our support. For us in Sabah, medical and healthcare systems are lagging behind,” he said, noting the overcrowded hospitals and insufficient doctors to treat Covid-19 patients.

Shafie said the government must also ensure that the Covid-19 outbreak in Sabah was managed as best as possible, including providing more quarantine centres nearer to the communities to lighten the burden faced by patients.CLICKFOR OUR LIVE UPDATE OF THE COVID-19 SITUATION IN MALAYSIA
