KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): A waiter was fined RM3,500 in default three months' jail by the Magistrate's Court for biting the arm of a policeman in a scuffle while resisting arrest during a random check last month.

On Tuesday , Magistrate Fardiana Haryanti Ahmad Razali handed down the sentence on Suresh Kumar, 33, after he pleaded guilty to using criminal force on the policeman, Ismail Abu Hassan, with the intention to deter the latter from discharging his duty.

In mitigation, Suresh, who was unrepresented, asked for a minimum sentence because he had regretted and repented over his actions. He pleaded guilty before magistrate Fardiana Haryanati to the offence committed at Pasar Pudu here, at 5.30pm on May 7.
