KUALA LUMPUR: Law enforcement officers found working together with human traffickers will soon face harsher punishment as part of the government’s plan to deter such offences, says Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

The Home Minister, who launched the National Action Plan on Anti-Trafficking in Persons yesterday, said the government was committed to eliminating trafficking in persons in the country.

The five principles are: government commitment and ownership; civil society and participation and partnership; human rights-based and gender-responsive approach; interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral approach; as well as systematic monitoring, evaluation and sustainability. “The government is committed to introducing an increase in punishment for enforcement officers conniving with human traffickers to deter the crime and adequately reflect the gravity of the offence, ” he said.
