KUALA LUMPUR: The country is expected to see a rise in the number of"slow travellers" during Visit Malaysia 2020, says Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik.

"After the rise of the free, independent and solo travel, a leading travel trend for 2020 is that of slow travel which expects to see a 20% rise compared to previous years," he said when launching the Media and Industry Appreciation Dinner organised by Tourism Malaysia on Friday night . He said that global travel-tech giant Amadeus also indicated the highest growth in online searches for travel to Malaysia came from Korea, Indonesia, China, Thailand and Singapore.

Meanwhile, Tourism Malaysia deputy director-general Zulkifly Md Said, who read out the speech on behalf of Tourism Malaysia director-general Datuk Musa Yusof, said the first nine months of this year has shown positive signs toward achieving the tourism target set for next year.
