SUBANG JAYA: A viral video that showed a car crashing into a road divider, supposedly caused by an oil spill done on purpose, is of an incident which occurred last month.

In a statement on their Facebook page, Subang Jaya police said that the incident actually happened on July 17.

"A woman in her 30's lost control of her car after she tried to avoid a water puddle that had formed after some rain. She crashed her vehicle at a divider along the Federal Highway entering Subang Jaya. "Interviews with witnesses that assisted the victim showed that there were no incidents of oil being purposely spilled on the highway.

"The driver has also been issued a summon under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 for failing to exercise due control over movements of a vehicle," the statement said. The police also added that unverified news such as these could cause uneasiness, especially for drivers that frequently use that road.Captions on the video insinuated that a"call man" had spilled the oil on the road for unscrupulous tow truck operators.
