Cheque presentation by YB Phee Boon Poh to Bishop Sebastian Francis flanked by SSVP National president Aloysius Lai, Msgr Jude Miranda and Ameleena Maikal Yesu. A whopping RM190,000 was raised at the Society of St Vincent De Paul’s Charity Gala dinner held recently at the Jen Hotel. It was to fund the society’s first retirement home – Ozanam Retirement Village , situated in Taiping, Perak.
From the moment go, the charity dinner, themed Dine, Donate and Dance lived up to its theme with lively and entertaining performances, songs and auctions to raise funds, and donations poured in, boosted by a RM20,000 donation from the Penang State Government. ORV, situated in Klian Pauh, Taiping on the grounds of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church was launched in 2017 and is due for completion by the end of this year. However, it is still short of funds so the charity dinner was one of the many initiatives to raise awareness of the project and seek generous support.
“We are all growing old, not just as individuals but as members of the faith community. ORV will provide senior and retired individuals a community-based living, seeing to the residents’ physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. Community living will ensure lesser loneliness and despair and is important for the wellbeing of persons as we grow old.”
