Menurut pihak tentera, bekalan vaksin itu dicuri ketika berada di bawah kawalan sebuah institusi kesihatan awam di tengah negeri Morelos dengan kawalan keselamatan di situ diuruskan sebuah firma swasta.
"Kecurian ini disebabkan perbuatan tidak jujur untuk kepentingan sendiri oleh seorang kakitangan pemvaksinan hospital," kata tentera dalam satu kenyataan. Kerajaan Mexico berjanji untuk menjadikan kempen vaksinasi percuma di seluruh negara yang mempunyai populasi hampir 129 juta orang itu sekali gus cabaran besar dari segi logistik.
Golongan pertama yang menerima suntikan vaksin Covid-19 adalah kumpulan barisan hadapan terdiri daripada pekerja kesihatan.
