WASHINGTON, Aug 14 ― Immigration advocates criticised President Joe Biden's asylum policies yesterday, saying expulsions of migrants at the US-Mexico border and other deterrent measures were “cruel, unlawful and ineffective.”to Biden and top officials, more than 100 organisations urged the Democratic president to restore the ability of all migrants to claim asylum in the United States and eschew any new policies that limit asylum access.

At the same time, some Democrats have pressed Biden to end Title 42 and advocates for asylum seekers say the administration's actions contradict what Biden promised. The groups urged Biden not to adopt any policies that force migrants to wait in Mexico for the resolution of their US cases, which they said “would unquestionably put individuals in danger and violate US asylum law.”
