It's discrimination and double standards when women are denied right to confer citizenship on their childrenTHE Joint Action Group for Gender Equality is deeply disappointed by the Aug 5, 2022, Court of Appeal decision which denied the rights of Malaysian mothers in conferring citizenship on their children born overseas.
The Court of Appeal, in a two-to-one majority, arrived at its decision by interpreting that the word"father” used in Malaysia’s Federal Constitution cannot be interpreted harmoniously to include"mother”.
