The Young Adults of the Church of the Immaculate Conception had a Journey to the Cross event on October 9. It was attended by 55 young people from four language groups aged between 13 to 39 years. It was hoped that this event would bring the young people of the parish together to pray for the community and for their private intentions.
The programme began with emcees Brian, Geraldine and Bryan welcoming everyone after lunch, followed by a Praise and Worship session. During the song You are My All in All, a procession of four young people from each language group carried in the Young People’s Cross. Next, guest speaker Francisco Overee from the Malacca-Johore Diocese Young People Network shared the meaning behind the event Journey to the Cross. What struck me from his sharing was a personal reminder to “take up your cross daily and follow after Me”. He also led the group in a song titled Sungguh Indah Kabar Mulia, which is about how Jesus is forever the same, and that we should not be afraid to go to Him.
The next session was the highlight of the event — Adoration of the Cross. For this session, the young people were invited to come forward and stick their petitions on the Young People’s Cross. After this, the song All to Jesus I Surrender was sung to invite the attendees to lay down all their cares and concerns before the Lord. We ended this beautiful session with the Sign of Peace.
