PETALING JAYA: Debutant Ng Tze Yong got off to a brilliant start in the World Championships by knocking out Malaysian Masters champion Chico Aura of Indonesia in the first round of the men's singles event.

The 22-year-old Tze Yong, who made the cut for the major event after the withdrawal of another player, defeated Chico in a convincing style after pulling off a 21-16, 21-10 win at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium in Tokyo on Monday .

The Commonwealth Games silver medal winner will play Sitthikom Thammasin of Thailand in the second round. The Thai pulled off an upset by packing off homester and 13th seed Kanta Tsuneyama 13-21, 21-16, 21-13 in the opener.
