Kedah police chief Datuk Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad the two men, in their 60s and 40s, were in a car which sped away when ordered by the police to stop before firing several shots at the police.
He said the incident happened at about 11pm when a team from the Kedah criminal investigation department was patrolling Sungai Petani, Jeniang, Sik when they spotted the car."During the chase, the suspects fired several shots at the police, forcing the police to return fire in self-defence, leading to a shoot-out during where a policeman was hit," he told a media conference here on Monday .
According to Wan Hassan, the suspect in his 60s had a record of 64 previous crimes, including for robbery and drug-related offences, while the other suspect did not have a criminal record. They are believed to be responsible for up to 20 robberies in the state, he said, adding that the police would launch a manhunt for their accomplices. – Bernama
