GEORGE TOWN: The Education Ministry has defended the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) over its statement to re-introduce a travel ban.

Its minister Dr Maszlee Malik said it was a misunderstanding, adding that PTPTN chairman Wan Saiful Wan Jan could have responded in such a manner while answering a question from newsmen.

Anwar said the defaulters should be given some space as many did not have jobs and should not be pressured. “Wan Saiful should be reminded that the PTPTN issue was a ‘rallying cry’ for Pakatan Harapan Youth in the GE14 where we galvanised the youth nationwide for a new formula to be carried out on PTPTN loan repayments.

Syed Saddiq rejects any travel ban on PTPTN loan defaultersThe youth and sports minister says other ways must be found to ease PTPTN's burden and problems faced by graduates earning low incomes. No money to pay loan, yet still got money to travel. WTF 😂 No need to give excuses. Must ensure those who owe money to pay up. Let’s do it in a sensible way. Work out a repayment program with those owing money through deduction from the salary like taxes. They are in good jobs + earning money because of their education on borrowed money.
