TOKYO, July 24 ― Australia powered past hosts Japan 5-3 in a thrilling opening match of the men's hockey tournament at the Tokyo Olympics today, while India fought back from a goal down to beat New Zealand.

“Japan are a tough opponent. We wanted to get the result today,” said midfielder Daniel Beale, who scored the final goal.
