Ini kekalahan kedua berturut-turut buat Sri Pahang di laman sendiri selepas tumpas kepada Terengganu FC dalam aksi terakhir liga, 21 Ogos lalu.

Masih segar dengan kejayaan melayakkan diri ke final Antara Zon Piala AFC, KL City meneruskan momentum dengan melancarkan serangan bertali arus sejak awal permainan.

Peluang pertama KL City hadir menerusi penyerang remaja, Haqimi Azim Rosli, namun rembatan pemain berusia 19 tahun itu diselamatkan penjaga gol tuan rumah, Mamadou Samassa pada minit ke-16. Begitupun tiga minit kemudian, Haqimi Azim tidak melakukan kesilapan apabila memanfaatkan situasi kelam kabut di depan pintu gol tuan rumah untuk membuka jaringan pasukannya.

Memasuki separuh masa kedua, kedua-dua pasukan saling melancarkan serangan dan peluang terbaik tuan rumah hadir menerusi rembatan Manuel Hidalgo dari luar kotak penalti tetapi bola tersasar di kanan gawang KL City pada minit ke-61.
