Tin mining to make a comeback in Malaysia, says natural resources minister

Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Dr Xavier Jayakumar says the government has agreed to revive tin mining in Malaysia due to attractive prices and a vast deposit of the metal. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, May 1, 2019.

PUTRAJAYA has agreed to revive the tin mining industry after 40 years thanks to healthy world market prices, Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Dr Xavier Jayakumar said. Speaking to media in a recent pool interview in the run-up to Pakatan Harapan’s one year in federal power, he said the government’s decision was in response to high demand for tin because of its price averaging US$20,000 per tonne.
