Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said it was timely as the Kualiti Alam plant here currently had to take in and treat all scheduled waste generated by industries and other related sectors in the peninsula.
“So this assurance that the federal authorities are planning another such facility is great news, ” he told reporters after chairing the state exco meeting. The Kualiti Alam plant, which can store and treat more than 100,000 tonnes of all classes of hazardous waste at any one time, started operations in 1998 and is the only prescribed plant in the peninsula to provide complete off-site scheduled waste management from the collection, transportation, analyses and treatment to the final disposal.Aminuddin said his administration accepted the fact that the Kualiti Alam plant could not be closed overnight.
