Changing the system through elections won't work, says Chandran Nair.

After his defeat in the 1969 general election, which served as the catalyst for a sanguinary racial conflict, and his fallout with then-premier Tunku Abdul Rahman, resulting in his expulsion from Umno, Dr Mahathir Mohamad published a controversial book.

Now, as the nation celebrates its 64th year of independence, Chandran Nair delves into what he terms as the “non-Malay dilemma” - the other part of Malaysia’s ethnic equation. To his credit, he said, Nazir lamented the state of affairs in Malaysia and outlined his vision for change.

Mahathir’s race-based policies have succeeded in demolishing the genuine aspiration of the Malaysian founding fathers. Present Malaysia is witnessing the impact of Mahathir’s policies that are deteriorating the fundamental features of the multicultural society & democracy.

Not a dilemma. Very clear cut. Plan forward for your own future. Expect nothing

There was a time when all races sit on the same table in school canteens and coffee shops. No longer. Why ? It was and still is what the Malay Politicians did to Malaysia.

Hahahaha we all malaysian tapi either Malay or non Malay all dalam dilema,, trust me

orang melayu sangat bertoleransi dengan siapa saja didunia.

There’s no non-Malay dilemma. There’s Malaysian dilemma. Our nation building agenda has been hijacked by a few in the elite group. Time for rakyat, real Malaysians to get involved and be a force of politics. I have one tanahair, Malaysia. My friends are simply Malaysians.

Really good article, but the movement needs to start from the rural area where urban and educated Malays & non-Malays to go out and explain what has happened without being arrested. The rural and poor Malay folks are scared of their country being stolen by the Chinese, debunk it!

Non-malay politicians are the reason why non-malay Malaysians cannot control Malaysian politics. Instead of standing up for non-malay Malaysians, these non-malay politicians are licking their malay politicians' boots for their chicken feed supply. Change them first.
