THOSE born in the 60s and earlier will remember moments spent in Donggongon township, recalling fond memories of things or events they witnessed those days.

One of the things they are bound to recall are the long wooden buildings, believed to be the earliest ones erected in the district demolished in the 1980s to make way for new buildings.“I remember SRJK Yue Min primary school just behind the shoplots. Its proximity and ties with the shopkeepers, workers and even the owners were somewhat strong, I dont know how to describe it but it was like a big family in the whole of Donggongon then,” said 50-year old Ling Na, a former pupil at the school.

“In the early 60s, most buildings were made of wooden walls and with just one plain colour,” said Richard Teo who witnessed the transformation from the era of 60s, 70s to today’s environment. “I remember wooden benches provided outside each shop and many of those coming from Donggongon sat there for a quick rest before continuing their journey to other places. That scenario I could recall well till today,” he said.
