Tengku Zafrul: Putrajaya prepared to roll out targeted Covid-19 stimulus if needed

Monday, 17 Aug 2020 11:05 AM MYTKUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 — The government is open to the idea of targeted stimulus measures if the situation warrants it, says Minister of Finance Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

“Which means there is still room for any targeted stimulus if needed,” he explained, adding that the government wants to ensure that the budget deficit is contained at between 5.8 per cent and 6.0 per cent. To recap, Malaysia’s debt-to-GDP ratio was 80.7 per cent in 1990 before falling to 31.8 per cent in 1997.

Malaysia, she said, has never had a problem servicing its debts, which are mainly ringgit-denominated.
