KUALA LUMPUR: The state of shoebox rooms being rented out at a shoplot in Taman Maluri, Cheras, was shocking, even for the seasoned enforcement officers.The four-storey building, with its ground floor serving as a shop, had three upper levels partitioned into 78 shoebox rooms.

TELUK INTAN: A traditional medicine shop assistant has been jailed six months and fined RM2,500, in default a further five months' imprisonment, for possession of child sexual abuse materials.

Magistrate T. Ashvinii imposed the sentence on Liew Ming Hui, 24, on Friday after he pleaded guilty to the charge. Liew was charged with possession of child sexual abuse material, in the form of a pen drive containing 19,011 videos and pictures of children, at No 19 Atas, Lorong 1, Jalan Besar, Rancangan Perumahan Awam 2, Langkap near here, at about 4.20pm on May 29.

The charge was framed under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 which provides a maximum prison sentence of five years or a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or both, if convicted.The lawyer had earlier requested a stay of execution of the sentence, but this was dismissed by the court.to our Premium Plan for an ad-free and unlimited reading experience!
