Dalam satu majlis konvokesyen baru-baru ini, 13 mahasiswa daripada pelbagai bidang pengajian menghabiskan masa kira-kira 10 jam sehari lebih seminggu sebelum acara untuk menggosok jubah yang dihantar kepada mereka.
Kerja itu sebahagian daripada program Rakan Bakti Putra UPM sempena Majlis Konvokesyen UPM Kali Ke-43 untuk memberi peluang kepada penuntut bekerja bagi mencari wang tambahan. “Program ini memberi keutamaan sasaran dalam kalangan penuntut asnaf. Melalui program ini, mahasiswa dapat memberi sumbangan kepada universiti dan dalam masa sama membantu penuntut supaya tidak terlalu bergantung kepada sumbangan atau bantuan kerajaan mahupun universiti.“Mahasiswa berpeluang menambah pendapatan dan dapat mempertingkatkan keupayaan kewangan dalam tempoh pengajian,” katanya.
“Melalui program sebegini, universiti tidak perlu mengupah orang luar, sekali gus mengurangkan kos perkhidmatan luar. Pelbagai pekerjaan dilakukan anak gadis dari Teluk Intan, Perak itu di UPM bermula pada semester kedua ketika mengikuti program Ijazah Sarjana Muda, kira-kira tiga tahun lalu.
