Let me express my appreciation to many well-wishers for last Sunday’s article “Sabahans also can undertake new KKIA study”. Very heartening to see the increasing awakening of the Sabahan spirit from so many Sabahans.

I want to follow up with some thoughts on the implementation of the Sabahans First Policy in the context of this bourgeoning Sabahan Spirit.

Sabah must continue Hajiji’s investor friendly policies which have attracted unprecedented investment inflow. It is right that investors should and must profit from their investments. Sabahans can be and are just as good as any West Malaysians. Running to some West Malaysians for a study or all sort of projects is totally misplaced and unwarranted. Sabahans can achieve economic greatness only when we can control our destiny, give opportunities first to Sabahans. To start off, all Federal and State Projects should be given to genuine Sabahan entrepreneurs/businessmen.

The most important thing is for Sabahans to be awarded and to lead. In fact, many foreign companies, especially from China are keen. Most of the 33 plus FMUs have failed to perform in the last 30 years. Their agreements should be reviewed and revoked. The Sabah Government [including City Hall and Local Councils] then can give due recognition ONLY to members of this council. In this way, all non-members, including foreign professionals will be required to collaborate with member of the Sabah Professional Council.
