The 23-year-old suspect allegedly smashed a statue at the temple with a hammer this morning.

PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a 23-year-old man suspected of vandalising a statue of a Hindu deity at a temple in Matang, Perak, this morning.

In a statement, Taiping police chief Razlam Hamid said a report concerning the incident was lodged around 9am today. “Following that, a local man was arrested and two hammers used to vandalise the statue were seized,” he said.He is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and Section 295 of the Penal Code for defiling a place of worship, with intent to insult the religion of any class of persons.
