Kota Kinabalu: The State Agriculture Department through its biosecurity team will conduct a study on guarana to come up with a policy for the crop in Sabah .
Deputy Chief Minister I cum Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said this is after a study done by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia found that guarana already existed for five generations in Malaysia and there was no doubts or dangerous fungus. “Based on the explanation by a UKM researcher, it shows that the guarana studied has gone through five generations. It is time now for us to make a clear and doubtless policy on this crop. “I will ask the Agriculture Department through our biosecurity team to do a study on this crop and when it is done and okayed, we will have a basis in Sabah for us to come up with a policy,” he said adding he will after that immediately bring the findings of the study to the State Cabinet to make a decision.
