Tests were designed to measure implicit stereotypes between certain traits like brilliance, and certain groups like men. FMTNews FMTLifestyle

New research finds many of us believe men are more brilliant than women, which may affect a woman’s opportunities in the world of work.

The tests were designed to measure implicit stereotypes — which are the automatic associations that come into our mind — between certain traits and certain groups . The researchers also measured explicit stereotyping, which is when we knowingly and verbally give traits to groups of people, by directly asking the participants whether they believed that men are more brilliant than women.

However, when asked about their stereotypes, the participants said they disagreed with the idea that men are more brilliant, and in fact in one of the studies, they explicitly said that they associated the quality of being “super smart” with women more than with men.
