Store claiming furniture gnawed by mice ordered to refund RM3,700 for non-delivery of items

A TEACHER who just wanted new dining and sofa sets for Hari Raya Aidilfitri waited in vain for the items“The price for the dining table was RM1,800 while the sofa was RM1,900,” she said when met outside the Johor Consumer Claims Tribunal in Menara Ansar, Johor Baru.

The 49-year-old made the payment at the furniture outlet in Benut, located about 80km from Johor Baru.The claimant messaged the owner on Dec 11 and was assured the items would be delivered on that day.“The owner also claimed the dining and sofa sets I booked were sold out and I would have to wait for quite some time before new stock arrived,” she said.

The claimant messaged the owner again on Feb 22 but was told to settle the remaining RM1,700 in order to get the items.She waited until March 5 but the furniture did not arrive.The claimant however pointed out the photos of the damaged furniture sent to her were different from the items she had ordered.

Tribunal president Lee Chee Thim ordered the respondent, who did not attend the hearing, to return RM3,700 to the claimant within two weeks.By ZAZALI MUSA
