KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The Prisons Department has confirmed that there are no Covid-19 positive cases among its staff and inmates since the pandemic began.

However, it said appropriate steps have always been implemented to prevent the spread of the virus in prisons, including carrying out health checks on those on duty."If they show any symptoms of the virus, the prison authorities have prepared isolation blocks and quarantine centres for them,” the department said in a statement on Sunday .

"It is hoped that with continuous efforts and prayers, our country will be free of the pandemic soon,” said the statement. Earlier, allegations went viral on social media that a staff member and two inmates from the Kajang Prison had been infected with Covid-19, and that other inmates were not allowed to contact their families. - Bernama
