An unauthorised pipe connection at a construction site in Kuala Lumpur has caused an estimated RM770,000 in losses to Air Selangor.

An operation by the National Water Services Commission uncovered an 80mm pipe, believed to have been used to supply water to a hostel at the site housing some 800 workers.

SPAN corporate communications and consumer affairs unit senior executive Loh Pit Mui said the commission was alerted about the matter by Air Selangor three weeks ago. “We were informed by Air Selangor that the meter at the pipe could not be found in its records, which meant that it was illegal.A chlorine test conducted on the water during the raid confirmed that the supply was treated water from Air Selangor.Loh said the matter would be investigated under Section 123 of the Water Services Industry Act 2006 which carried a penalty of a fine of up to RM100,000, one-year jail or both.
