Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ismail Dollah said the 36-year-old local man was arrested at around 4am on Sunday at a residential area in Sri Gading.Police then went to the suspect’s house along Jalan Labis in Yong Peng and seized 125 pairs of shoes and 24 pairs of slippers.
“We have increased our patrols in residential areas around here and asked residents to immediately contact us if they come across suspicious characters. “The initial investigation found that the suspect would sell the stolen footwear at a market in Parit Yaani,” he said, adding that the total value of the seized items was approximately RM7,000.
ACP Ismail added that the suspect was also wanted in Alor Gajah, Melaka for an offence under Regulation 11 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2020.ACP Ismail added that the suspect will be remanded until Wednesday to assist in the investigation of the case under Sections 379 and 457 of the Penal Code.
“With the arrest, we have solved shoe and slipper thefts in the district,” he said, adding that police hope there will be further cooperation from the public to fight crime.
