Social media users won’t be punished under Finas Act

Users of apps like TikTok, YouTube and others lashed out at the Communications and Multimedia Minister Saifuddin Abdullah yesterday over the requirement to apply for a Finas licence. – AFP pic, July 24, 2020.

THE cabinet agreed today the National Film Development Corporation Act 1981 will not be used to restrict the personal freedom of individuals on social media, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Saifuddin Abdullah. The government would also continue to support the freedom of expression and individual’s freedom on social media, he said.
