KUALA LUMPUR: Following the Timah whisky brand controversy that triggered a lot of public discourse recently, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (IND-Muar) has suggested that parliamentary priorities may have been misplaced.

He pointed out that there were other pressing issues that needed to be debated in Parliament, but they were overshadowed by responses from ministers and MPs to the Timah issue.

"Over the past two weeks, we only heard calls for a name change to Timah," he said in Parliament on Monday during the debate on the 2022 Supply Bill. On Oct 28, it was reported that a total of RM620.07mil of public funds were lost or wasted last year due to non-compliance of ministries and departments with financial management practices.

"He is the Environment and Water Minister and commented at length on Timah but when it comes to representing the country internationally, he was absent."The name of a company seemed more important than issues of leakages, malpractice, quality employment and education.

YOURSAY | From Timah to Tongkat Ali – are we so easily confused?'Half of the products in the supermarket should change their names.' Seperti meminum ali punya tongkatttttttt You'll need to ask what kind of rubbish standards of bahasa they had been teaching in the past for these useless politicians to be confused. You should ask PH as they're the one that approved the registration of Timah name when they're gov't and when they're oppositions now, they're mocking the Timah name, stupidly!

COMMENT | How is the manufacturer of Timah going to explain name change?Enabling intolerance gets you into more trouble than the intolerance itself. Simple - my dumbass pretentious government thinks the name is akin to a Malay lady. So to them, it will confuse the public into thinking they will be consuming a Malay lady. That may encourage some Muslims to buy it. Better you ask PH as PH very good at approving Timah registration and also good at mocking at it after it had been registered! So stupid! Just change the picture of the man to an estetic looking lump of tin ore and we done...
