PUTRAJAYA: A poultry farm will temporarily stop supplying chicken this weekend due to weight issues – their stock is too small to be sold.

This is the explanation given by a poultry producer to the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry on claims that a cartel is planning to close poultry farms on Saturday and Sunday over upaid subsidies.

“Usually, the chicken will be sold off when it reaches 1.8kg in weight after a certain number of days. “They also want to protect their good name in the market,” he said after launching a special logo to identify subsidised and controlled items on Thursday . “This will not affect chicken supply in the market. The company’s decision is not to undermine the industry nor is it done with bad intention,” he added.
