The 17-year-old is one of the four women’s singles representatives in the Asian meet starting on Tuesday in Manila.
Siti Myisha Khairul and Tan Zhing Yi will have to start from the qualifying tournament while S. Kisona has been drawn to face Supanida Katethong of Thailand in the first round. Instead of a straightforward knockout style, debutant Nurshuhaini, will have to play in a three-team round-robin match to earn the right to play in the main draw. The same goes for Myisha and Zhing Yi, who are lumped in different qualifying groups.“The qualifying tournament is different a bit but it will not stop me from trying to get to the main draw,” said the former junior player under Datuk Misbun Sidek who was fast-tracked to the national team.
If she gets through, her first-round opponent will be Singapore’s Jaslyn Hooi. If she clears that hurdle, fourth seed P. V. Sindhu of India is likely to await her in the second round. “Hopefully, I’ll do well and it’ll serve as a good warm-up for me before I leave for the Vietnam SEA Games,” added Nurshuhaini, who finished runners-up to Myisha in the Dutch International on Saturday.Article type: metered
