Anwar Ibrahim berharap Malaysia dan Singapura akan mengekalkan hubungan baik walaupun terdapat isu yang menimbulkan perbalahan dan berusaha menyelesaikannya secara aman.
Ketika berucap pada sesi pleno persidangan Persatuan Peguam Inter Pasifik pada Jumaat, Anwar berkata meskipun terdapat isu 2 hala yang tidak diselesaikan, kedua-dua negara mendapat banyak manfaat dari segi “ekonomi, sosial, budaya, dan keselamatan”. “Kami saling bergantung. Ini memberi manfaat kepada kita jika kita bekerjasama dengan lebih efektif sudah tentu berdasarkan amanah,” katanya.
“Tanganinya dengan berhati-hati”, kata Anwar ketika merujuk kepada rundingan antara Malaysia dan Singapura sekarang bagi menyelesaikan beberapa isu tertangguh berkaitan bekalan air dan sempadan maritim.
