KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim has strongly denied that he wanted to live stream his speech in the Dewan Rakyat.
This was after Deputy Speaker Alice Lau ordered the sergeant-at-arms to check a device placed on the Arau MP's table."Please come here and check... I just put some items here in front of me," he said in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday .Lau had earlier reminded MPs of Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul's ruling that MPs will not be allowed to live stream their speeches in Parliament.Several government backbenchers stood up to ask Shahidan to listen to the ruling.
Tan Kar Hing defended Lau, saying that she was merely asking the sergeant-at-arms to check the device put on the table.Tan replied:"You are using the Standing Order to go against the Speaker's ruling. Is that not rude? The Speaker is just asking to check."Lau then asked all parties to sit down and observe parliamentary decorum.
On Oct 16, Johari ruled that MPs were not allowed to stream their speeches in Parliament on their personal devices. Johari argued that the moment an MP started his live stream, they were no longer focussed on parliamentary proceedings but on the audience.Govt committed to separating powers of executive, legislature and judiciary
