Muhamad Eilham Hasmadi was following his father to lay fishing net near a paddy field when the incident happened at about 6.20pm.
Pasir Putih Fire Services and Rescue station operation chief Azhar Elmi Mustofar said the boy was believed to have fallen into a one-metre deep drain and was swept by the floodwaters. He said search and rescue operation was launched after firemen received an emergency call at 6.40pm but failed to locate the boy.
"The operation had to be stopped at about 10pm due to the bad weather. We resumed our operation at about 8 this morning," he said.
