Services sector takes biggest hit since 2013

About 115,400 people lost their jobs in the services sector during the MCO, most of them in the worst-hit segments that include hospitality. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, August 12, 2020.

THE services sector shrank 24% in the second quarter, its biggest decline since 2013 and signalling a steep contraction in gross domestic product for the period. The sector has been hit hardest in the Covid-19 pandemic, said the Statistics Department in a recent release, with only RM335.6 billion in volume generated.
